Fall Maintenance Tips for Your Retractable Awning

Slowly (and sadly) putting your patio furniture in storage for the winter? Now is a great time to also ensure your awning is prepped and ready for winter storage. Protecting your awning during the winter months will allow it to be ready for use when spring hits, and also prolong the life of the fabric & parts.

A few tips to keep in mind:

  • Make sure the fabric is clean and try before retracting it. If it is dirty, use warm water and a soft bristled scrub brush and rinse off with your hose.
  • Wipe the frame down with a soft cloth
  • Once retracted, check the screws and bolts to make sure nothing has come loose during the summer. This will make sure when you extend it in the spring it is safe & ready to use.
  • To prolong the life of the valance, some homeowners will tie down the valance so it does not flap in the wind. Overtime, a valance can begin to tear if it is in a really windy area, so tying it down would protect it from this. Another option for this is the accessory we offer called The Sunboot. This fabric cover encloses the entire retracted awning and allows it to stay clean, dry, and protected until you are ready to use your shade solution again.
